A highly-regarded player from Manchester City has acknowledged that he is gaining knowledge from Bukayo Saka, who plays for Arsenal, as the two teams compete for the Premier League championship. Phil Foden, a top performer for Man City, and Saka have numerous similarities.

Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden are both thriving in the Premier League and have reached similar points in their careers as young English internationals. They are currently involved in two major battles – one for the Premier League title with their respective clubs, and the other for a starting spot in the England national team.

Phil Foden has been in the spotlight for Manchester City, who have dominated English football in recent seasons. Meanwhile, Saka has emerged as a young starlet for Arsenal, scoring his 13th goal of the season in their weekend victory over Crystal Palace.

Although Foden has also scored 13 goals this season, he has spent several games on the bench and his contributions have been overshadowed by the remarkable performances of Erling Haaland, who scored his sixth hat-trick since joining England from Borussia Dortmund in the summer and reached a total of 42 goals.

Despite having the same number of goals this season, Saka and Foden are also vying for the same position in the England national team. They both prefer playing on the right wing for their respective clubs, allowing them to cut inside on their stronger left foot.

In previous England matches, they have played on opposite sides of Harry Kane, with Foden on the left in the World Cup last-16 against Senegal and quarter-final against France. However, in the first Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy, Saka was chosen over Foden on the right wing, with his club teammate Jack Grealish on the left.

Despite their respective clubs being entrenched in an intense battle for Premier League glory and the competition for places on an international level, Foden clearly holds Saka in a high regard.

“Definitely, I learn from him,” Foden told Evening Standard when asked about Saka. “From him missing that penalty, he’s turned it around with his performances on the pitch for club & country. He’s such a nice lad & everyone loves him. He’s a big part of what we do here.”

“It shows what a person he is. He’s such a young lad, he’s still developing & still learning about the game. For him to come back from something like that [Euro 2020 final penalty miss] just shows the courage he’s got & how much he’s come on. I’m so happy for him.”
