Anfield’s Rising Star: Liverpool’s Marcus Rashford Lookalike Set to Unleash His Talent Against Manchester United

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford is on fire right now, but Liverpool has a player who is statistically on par with the England sensation to unleash.

One of Liverpool’s most in-form players at the moment, facing Marcus Rashford in his current form will be a terrifying proposition on Sunday afternoon.

The stakes for Liverpool’s match against Manchester United could not be higher. Jürgen Klopp absolutely wants his team to win against their arch-rivals, not only for the sake of Liverpool’s reputation, but also in the race for Champions League football next season.

Liverpool’s players will know they cannot afford any more slip-ups after moving within six points of the top four with a game in hand. They must go on the kind of winning streak that saw them record an almost perfect season last season.

Rashford stands in the way of all of that, but although Liverpool will be anxious about his recent exploits, Manchester United should be wary about another Liverpool attacker who will be facing the Red Devils for the first time.

Darwin Gomez has been subjected to a barrage of criticism since his arrival at Anfield, but based on statistics alone, he has been nearly on level with Rashford this season. Rashford has averaged 0.78 goal contributions per 90 minutes for Manchester United, whereas Nez has produced a 0.72 goal contribution return for Liverpool.

That’s only a 0.06 difference every 90 minutes, and the gap could have been even smaller had the Uruguayan not had a goal ruled off harshly by VAR against Wolves in midweek.

Yes, Nez has played considerably fewer minutes than Rashford, so his total goal and assist figures aren’t as great, but their contributions on the field are relatively similar, and once Nez has a regular run in the Liverpool team without suspensions and injuries, the numbers will reflect that.

For the time being, though, he can be Liverpool’s secret weapon and possibly the key to causing Manchester United difficulties at the back as long as he is ‘underestimated’ by other teams.

Nez’s capacity to create mayhem will be vital in the sense that Erik ten Hag will be unable to prepare for how to handle him because the Uruguayan is so unpredictable. He has the ability to surprise defenders, and perhaps even his own teammates, but given how predictable Liverpool’s offense has been in previous years, that’s precisely what Klopp wants.

This will be Nez’s first taste of this fiery English fixture, and it will be intriguing to see how he handles that aspect of the game. He’ll almost certainly be in the heart of the action, as he was in the Merseyside derby a few weeks ago.

Possessing that kind of energy and goal threat could make or break Liverpool. Just as Rashford hopes to be the difference maker for Manchester United.

Whoever wins will be determined on Sunday, with the only certainty being that you will not want to take your eyes from this game.
