Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Provides Injury Update After Gabriel Magalhaes Misses Training

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta faced questions regarding the team’s injury situation ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Aston Villa.

However, Arteta remained tight-lipped on the availability of defender Gabriel Magalhaes amid rumors that he had missed training earlier in the day.

While Arsenal has dealt with injury issues in recent months, they had seen many key players return to the squad in the weeks leading up to their recent 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final.

Notably, Bukayo Saka made a return to action and even scored the opening goal in that match.

Jurrien Timber remains Arsenal’s only long-term absentee due to a knee injury suffered on the opening day of the Premier League season.

However, the Dutchman, who joined from Ajax in the summer, is expected to make a comeback in the coming weeks, with plans for U21 appearances in place.

Reports emerged on Friday suggesting that Gabriel had missed training, prompting inquiries about his availability. When questioned about Gabriel, Arteta chose to remain cautious, stating, “We’ve got one more day to prepare the match. We will see tomorrow if everyone is available.”

Arsenal will have an extra day to prepare for Sunday’s late kick-off against Villa, and Arteta emphasized the importance of utilizing all available time to ensure everyone is fit for the game.

Regarding Timber’s recovery, Arteta mentioned that the full-back needs to play at least one game with the U21s to regain match fitness after being absent since August due to a knee injury.

Arsenal will be hopeful for Gabriel’s return, given his strong partnership with fellow centre-back William Saliba over the past two years.

With the title race heating up, Arteta emphasized the importance of having everyone fit for the final month of the season, as Arsenal sits level on points with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
