Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard picks up a footballer who could win player of the year prize at London Football Awards
Arsenal achieved a complete victory at the London Football Awards, with their captain Martin Odegaard being awarded the player of the year title, Bukayo Saka named as the best young player, and Gunners manager Mikel Arteta being recognized as the capital’s top coach.
Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, has been named the Premier League Player of the Year at the London Football Awards. Odegaard, who is from Norway, has played a crucial role for the Gunners this season as they try to win their first league championship in 19 years. He has made 10 goals and six assists so far. Odegaard won the award over other nominees, including Harry Kane from Tottenham, Ivan Toney from Brentford, Aleksandar Mitrovic from Fulham, and his Arsenal teammate Bukayo Saka.
‘I just want to share this with the whole team.It’sat to see the club being recognised with all the awards,’ the midfielder said.
‘I think it shows how far we’ve come as a club and what we’re doing this year is very special.’
Bukayo Saka took home the Young Player of The Year for the second time, having also won it in 2021, while Aaron Ramsdale was named Goalkeeper of The Year.
Mikel Arteta won the manager’s prize and he paid tribute to his players, staff and fans in his acceptance speech.
‘I would like to thank you for the award, for all my colleagues, all the staff, everyone at the club that inspires & supports me and obviously all the supporters that support our club and football in general,’ the Spaniard said.
Following a convincing 3-0 victory over London rivals Fulham on Sunday, Arsenal are now five points ahead at the top of the Premier League table. They will be back in action on Thursday to play against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League, followed by a match against Crystal Palace at home during the weekend.
