Arsenal is on high alert as a transfer target expresses his sentiments following the blowout of Moises Caicedo.

Mikel Arteta is looking for new targets after Chelsea jumped ahead in the fight to sign Brighton star Moises Caicedo, and one of the players on his shopping list is about to leave his club.

Arsenal have been alerted that target Amadou Onana is set to depart Everton after only one season on Merseyside.

The Gunners are aiming to bolster their midfield options after their Premier League title challenge fizzled out last season. Brighton star Moises Caicedo is boss Mikel Arteta’s top priority, although they are competing with Manchester United and Chelsea for his signature.

The Blues appear to have taken the lead in the race to sign him, having offered Conor Gallagher in exchange. As a result, Arteta has turned to other targets, with Onana being one of them.

The Belgian joined at Goodison Park in a £33 million deal from Hamburg last summer. He was a frequent starter for Everton, assisting them in avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

Despite having just finished his rookie season, the 21-year-old appears to be considering a move. According to Het Nieuwsblad, Onana has opted not to play for Everton anymore.

According to reports, the Belgian international is’very unhappy’ with the Toffees and ‘definitely wants to leave’ Merseyside. Everton officials have previously set a £47 million price tag on Onana, although it is unclear whether they will stay to that figure.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also been mentioned as potential bidders after Onana made a’solid impression’ in his first season in the Premier League. It was rumored in April that the Gunners were planning a summer deal for the midfielder.

They pondered trying to strike a deal in the January transfer window, but instead signed Jorginho. The Gunners, on the other hand, have maintained their interest and have been in communication with Onana’s representatives.

Boss Arteta is anxious for reinforcements, with Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey also connected with exits. With Chelsea leading the fight for Caicedo, focusing on Onana may become even more vital.

“I’m interested in understanding what we have in the house, the resources we have already and how we can improve, how we maximise and take players to a different level, the ones that we haven’t got everything from, do it and the bonus will be make those decisions and improve the team,” he said at the end of the season.

“We don’t want to lose that cohesion that exists around the team and that understand, hopefully we will make the right decision. I think we have some great foundations, that is true, in sport you have to prove it again.

“You have to be back first day in pre-season, look at each other and I don’t want to see any complacency, we’re going to have to be much better and it’s going to be a challenging season but a season with plenty of opportunities.

“One of those opportunities is to be consistent and do it again and do it better, and this is what we have to demand to each other. For sure, when we get to that stage if we are in the same position, we need everybody healthy and at his best, that’s crucial.”
