Arsenal is’ready’ to deploy a player who may have been a replacement for William Saliba in a swap deal.

Arsenal will be working this summer assembling a squad to compete in the Champions League next season.

Arsenal appear to have given up hope of emulating the success of William Saliba, with Nuno Tavares poised to be offered in a swap deal for top target Sacha Boey. The Gunners were proved correct in their decision to loan out Saliba for three years, with the Frenchman returning this year and establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s greatest young defenders.

When Arsenal sent Saliba out on loan again, this time to Marseille, eyebrows were raised. The defender had previously expressed his disappointment at not being given an opportunity at the Emirates.

Arsenal, on the other hand, were confident that they were making the right decision at the moment by allowing Saliba to acquire more experience. His outstanding initial season at Arsenal has now become the gold standard for teams looking to use the loan market.

And Arsenal will have hoped they were onto something when Tavares was transferred to Marseille last summer, following in the footsteps of Saliba. The left-back struggled to make an impression in his first season at Arsenal, filling in for Kieran Tierney.

Tavares needed to move elsewhere to play frequently after Arsenal signed Oleksandr Zinchenko last year. No buyout clause was included in his loan move to Marseille, implying that Arsenal hoped the move would help Tavares gain confidence, as it did for Saliba.

In Ligue 1, the full-back performed admirably in a more forward role, scoring six goals. However, it looks that Arsenal is aiming to use Tavares’ improved form to their advantage in the summer window.

Tavares has held negotiations with Galatasaray about a possible summer move, according to Turkish journalist Resat Can Ozbudak. It has been reported that Tavares joining the Turkish club could enhance Arsenal’s chances of signing Boey.

Tavares is presently representing Portugal in the Under-21 European Championship, therefore his future will most likely be decided after the competition. Boey is regarded as a key target for Arsenal, with Arteta looking to add further support for Ben White next season.

However, Galatasaray director Cenk Ergun claims that no approach for the 22-year-old has been made. “There are currently no official offers for Sacha Boey,” he explained.
