Arsenal Star Commits to Staying in January Despite Clear Message from Mikel Arteta

Reiss Nelson, the Arsenal winger, has rejected the possibility of a January transfer departure, dismissing reported overseas interest.

Despite receiving limited playing time in the Premier League from manager Mikel Arteta this season, the 24-year-old emphasized his commitment to north London.

Nelson has made six substitute appearances in the league, totaling just 62 minutes, with his starts coming in the Carabao Cup and the recent 1-1 Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven.

As a senior professional in his mid-twenties, Nelson’s priority for regular game time is increasing. During his loan spell at Hoffenheim, he frequently started in the XI, scoring seven Bundesliga goals.
Although Feyenoord, where he had a previous loan, is rumored to be interested, Arteta’s decision to give Nelson substantial playing time against PSV suggests the player has no intention of leaving.

Nelson mentioned his good relationship with Feyenoord’s coach but stressed his commitment to Arsenal, where he recently signed a new contract.
Arteta’s selection patterns imply that Nelson is far down the pecking order for playing time on the wings, with Martinelli and Saka being the preferred starting duo.

Despite being under contract until 2027, Nelson, who had a chance to impress against PSV, faces stiff competition for playing time.

While academy prospects Sousa, Nwaneri, and Walters traveled with the senior side, Arteta explained that it wasn’t the right context to introduce them against a formidable opponent like PSV.

Arteta further clarified that making eight changes and introducing young prospects against a team unbeaten at home for almost two years wasn’t the right moment.

Despite having three young prospects on the bench, Arteta faced constraints due to the need for substitutions and the desire to play a competitive game.
