Arsenal will seek summer reinforcements regardless of whether they beat Manchester City to the Premier League title, with the club and manager Mikel Arteta considering their options.

Arsenal are keeping an eye on Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, according to reports. The former Manchester United target could be on the move again after a difficult start at Bayern Munich.

Gravenberch, who played at Ajax under United manager Erik ten Hag, was linked with a summer move to Old Trafford. It did not happen, however, because the youngster refused to change his mind about joining Bayern.

However, things haven’t gone entirely smoothly for the 20-year-old in Bavaria, as Julian Nagelsmann, the manager who brought him to the Allianz Arena, has been relieved of his responsibilities. This appears to have prompted Arsenal to consider a summer transfer for the starlet, who has until the end of the season to impress Nagelsmann’s replacement, Thomas Tuchel.

Arsenal has yet to enter into formal negotiations with Gravenberch, according to Sky Sports in Germany. They are said to be keeping an eye on the Dutch international’s situation in Bavaria.

The former Ajax man has only played 700 minutes in Bayern colors, with only one of his league appearances coming as a starter. He’s played a few more minutes in cup competitions, including two 90-minute appearances in the Champions League group stages, but he only played three minutes in Bayern’s round-of-16 win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal’s midfield is well-stocked after signing Mohamed Elneny to a new contract and adding Jorginho in January. Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, and Martin Odegaard were already on the books, raising the question of whether Gravenberch would face similar problems at the Emirates Stadium.

“Manchester United is a very big and nice club,” Gravenberch told De Telegraaf over the summer. “But I already had such a good feeling at Bayern and I had them given my word.

“I like the fact that Nous [former Ajax defender Noussair Mazraoui] is going there [Bayern Munich] too. It’s always nice when you already know someone.

Despite representing the Netherlands at Euro 2020, Gravenberch has yet to cement his place in the Dutch national team. He has only played once for his country since joining Bayern, and he was left out of the squad for the 2022 World Cup.

He has come off the bench in both of Tuchel’s first two games with Bayern, and he has a chance to make an even bigger impact when the 2020 Champions League winners face Manchester City in the season’s quarterfinals. Under Nagelsmann, the Bundesliga leaders won every game in the competition, but their midweek opponents are coming off an 8-1 aggregate victory over RB Leipzig in the previous round.
