Casemiro faced criticism from the Brazilian media following their 1-0 win against Peru.
Manchester United’s start to the season has been sluggish, particularly in terms of performance.
The midfield area, in particular, has been a major concern, leading Erik ten Hag to pursue a new central player on deadline day, ultimately bringing in Sofyan Amrabat.
Casemiro has often been isolated on the field, and English media have claimed he’s past his prime, with Graeme Souness describing him as a ‘steady Eddie,’ which doesn’t reflect his true abilities.
Now, even Brazilian media have joined in the criticism of the United star, suggesting he had his ‘worst performance’ while playing for his national team during Brazil’s 1-0 victory against Peru.
Here’s what the media had to say about Casemiro’s performance: “The excellent midfielder Casemiro had his worst performance for the national team. He made everything wrong and gave the fans goosebumps,” wrote Brazilian media outlet Terra.
Personally, I didn’t watch the game, and I don’t pay much attention to international football unless it’s a major fixture or tournament.
In my opinion, Casemiro isn’t past his prime; he simply hasn’t received much help from his teammates at the start of this season. His performance improves significantly when he plays in a well-balanced midfield, as seen against Arsenal. While he may not be capable of starting every match every three days and maintaining peak performance, Amrabat’s addition and Kobbie Mainoo’s return address these concerns.
