All members of the Chelsea board are in consensus regarding the future of Kai Havertz, while Graham Potter has expressed his opinion on the matter, following Havertz’s impressive performances for the club in the past few weeks.
Graham Potter’s Chelsea team has witnessed exceptional displays by Kai Havertz in recent weeks, as the board of the club has unanimously agreed on Havertz’s future.
According to reports, the Chelsea board is said to be in complete agreement about Kai Havertz’s future with the club, especially after his standout performances in recent games under the guidance of Graham Potter. This is a significant turnaround for the Blues, who were experiencing a poor run of form and putting pressure on Potter. However, the team’s three consecutive victories have helped improve the atmosphere at the club.
Despite underperforming alongside the rest of the team, Kai Havertz had the support of Graham Potter, who retained faith in him. Havertz has since rewarded Potter’s trust by scoring two critical goals in the last two games. He scored the penalty that secured Chelsea’s place in the Champions League quarter-finals, and then scored again in their game against Leicester on Saturday.
Havertz’s current contract with Chelsea will expire in 2025, meaning that the club will soon have to decide on his long-term future. They could either extend his contract or sell him while they can still get a reasonable return on the £72 million they paid for him in 2020 from Bayer Leverkusen.
According to journalist Simon Phillips, the Chelsea board is “desperate” for Havertz to realize his potential at the club. This could indicate that the club hierarchy is leaning towards offering him a contract extension before he enters the final year of his current contract.
“Potter has continued to back Kai Havertz, continued to pick him, even in his poor form, and Havertz has appreciated that. The hierarchy, the Chelsea board, they’ve always seen something in Havertz and they’ve been desperate to see that come out,” Phillips told GiveMeSport.
Kai Havertz has recently spoken about the difficult time he has had at Chelsea in the past few months. The team has been going through a poor run of form under Graham Potter, which has led them to be in mid-table and facing the harsh reality of not qualifying for European football next season unless they can improve their performance in the remaining games of the season or win the Champions League this year.
“Football is our life. If you lose a game, of course, you don’t have an easy life,” Havertz admitted. “I think everyone at home, especially my girlfriend, has had some tough weeks as well the last weeks and months.
“I think she is happy now again, and so am I. If you have a bad day at work… you… I won’t say the word now, but you don’t feel good. Football is a game where we have a lot of pressure on our shoulders.
“We want to make the fans happy, and if you don’t make them happy, then you don’t have a good time. Winning is always the best. We won again, so we can enjoy some days.”
