Chelsea Braces for Mass Player Exodus as 13 Seek Exit Over Todd Boehly Clause

Chelsea could potentially experience a significant departure of players as 13 new members of the team may seek to leave due to a clause related to Todd Boehly, whose performance as the owner of the club has not been particularly impressive.

Keeping their star signings could prove challenging for Chelsea, as reports suggest that many of them may want to leave if the team fails to secure a spot in the Champions League for next season. It is rumored that these high-profile players may face a substantial reduction in their salaries if they are unable to qualify for the group stages of Europe’s top-tier tournament next year.

According to reports, players who joined Chelsea in the past two transfer windows have generally agreed to contracts that tie around 25% of their salary to the team’s performance in the Champions League.

Although Chelsea managed to defeat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on Tuesday and progress to the next round after losing the first leg 1-0, Graham Potter’s team missed several good opportunities in the game. However, Chelsea’s players stepped up and secured their place in the quarter-finals with goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz.

Despite this victory, if Chelsea fails to qualify for the Champions League next season, many players may try to leave the club to avoid a significant reduction in their salaries.

According to a report by The Telegraph, if Chelsea gets eliminated from the Champions League this season, there could be repercussions on the players’ wages. This could potentially motivate them in the upcoming quarter-final matches, regardless of who they face.

However, Chelsea’s current position in the Premier League table is not promising, as they currently sit at 10th place and are 11 points behind the Champions League qualification spots. Under the current manager, they have won only six out of 19 matches in the top-flight. This means that their most realistic chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League may be by winning the competition this year.

Prior to Chelsea’s comeback against Dortmund, Express Sport conducted a poll among Chelsea fans to see who they would like to see take over as manager if Graham Potter were to be sacked. The poll results showed that the fans were divided between three potential candidates to replace him.

The poll received almost 10,500 responses from Chelsea fans, with the majority (58%) suggesting that the club should part ways with Graham Potter. Among the fans who expressed a desire for a new manager, 26% voted in favor of Thomas Tuchel, the former Chelsea boss who was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain earlier this season. Zinedine Zidane was the second-most popular choice, with 24% of fans indicating that they would like to see him take the reins at Stamford Bridge. Mauricio Pochettino, who previously managed Tottenham, was favored by 23% of fans as their preferred choice for the role.
