Chelsea Drops Double Early Team News Hint for Burnley with Big Mauricio Pochettino Question

Chelsea news as Mauricio Pochettino attempts to go three games unbeaten heading into the international break.
Saturday’s trip to Burnley presents Mauricio Pochettino with a number of difficult selection decisions. For the first time since his arrival, there are genuine questions regarding the players he selects, particularly with regard to the composition of the attack.

The Blues hope to enter the international break on a high note by extending their current unbeaten streak to three games. This has not been accomplished since March, and it has been over a year since they won consecutive away league games.

Fortunately for Pochettino, things have begun to come together at the right time. His Chelsea side found their feet with a Carabao Cup win over Brighton last week before heading to Fulham with more confidence and a spring in their step. The 2-0 victory was their third shutout in four games as they attempt to stockpile points before a difficult stretch.

Although the results have begun to improve, Pochettino still has important decisions to make. At Craven Cottage, the midfield displayed their most dominant performance under the new manager to date. Conor Gallagher and Moises Caicedo ran with unrelenting vigor and speed, while Enzo Fernandez added a refined touch to an all-encompassing performance.

Nonetheless, if Pochettino elects to use some of his returning attacking stars, one of the trio may be benched. Caicedo, who has been questionable to play this week due to an injury, has posted a pre-match graphic on Instagram, a possible indication that he will play.

The Ecuadorian was confirmed to be in contention to play, although his starting position was not guaranteed. Raheem Sterling also hopes to return to action. Due to a combination of personnel and not feeling 100 percent in the days leading up to the game, he was on the bench against Fulham.
The winger has returned, but it will be difficult for him to displace Cole Palmer, Mykhailo Mudryk, or one of Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson in the starting lineup. If the midfield composition remains unchanged, Sterling will likely return to the bench. In addition to posting online prior to the game, the 28-year-old has also been left out of England’s squad for the upcoming matches for the second time.

Sterling made a brief appearance on Monday, but he will look to make a larger impact here as he seeks to rediscover the early-season form that accompanied Pochettino’s appointment. Fernandez, Levi Colwill, and Marc Cucurella, based on the images posted by the club, could play a prominent role, although there does not appear to be much debate regarding these players at the moment.
