Chelsea keen on £70m permanent deal for Atletico’s Joao Felix, but Koke expects his return to Madrid

Joao Felix is currently borrowed by the Blues from Atletico Madrid, with his loan set to end at the close of the season. However, he may potentially become a permanent member of the west London team in the summer. In his first appearance for Chelsea earlier this year, just 15 minutes into the game, Joao Felix demonstrated the team’s prior lack of creativity and attacking capability. He was introduced as a new player for the Blues on Monday, January 12, and he played his first game for them the following night against Fulham, displaying his skills and offensive potential, which had been lacking for the Blues for several months.

Regrettably, Joao Felix’s debut was overshadowed by a dreadful tackle on Kenny Tete, resulting in his expulsion from the game. He faced a three-match ban, and his next appearance for Chelsea was against West Ham on February 11, highlighting how much he was missed by Graham Potter. Collaborating with Enzo Fernandez, Felix calmly volleyed Chelsea into the lead at the London Stadium, and he has been a regular starter since that goal. He made his seventh consecutive start in the Premier League game against Leicester, but he was substituted at half-time with Chelsea leading 2-1.

When questioned after the match about the reason for substituting Felix, Potter clarified that it was a tactical decision and not due to an injury. He believed that an extra midfielder was necessary, someone who could win the ball and provide a distinct profile, and Conor performed remarkably well when he came on.

Joao Felix’s loan spell with Chelsea will come to an end at the conclusion of the season, and he will return to Atletico Madrid. However, it seems that both parties are interested in making the move permanent. Felix has become popular among the Stamford Bridge faithful, while his relationship with Atletico manager Diego Simeone appears to be beyond repair.

Atletico Madrid broke their club record by spending £113 million to acquire Joao Felix, and it is likely that they will aim to recoup a sum close to what they paid in 2019. Cadena SER reported that Chelsea is willing to pay £70 million to purchase him from Atletico in the summer.

However, Koke, his club teammate, stated that he anticipates Joao Felix returning to Madrid next season, while discussing the January departures of Matheus Cunha and Felix. He acknowledged that both players were crucial to the team, and that their decision to leave was respectable. Koke believes that Joao Felix is gaining momentum in games and gaining confidence, which will aid him in returning to Atletico next season. He also wished Cunha the best.
