Chelsea manager Todd Boehly plans crunch negotiations, with a ‘unthinkable’ transfer on the menu.

Chelsea’s transfer chiefs are making preparations for Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is due to hold a round of crucial transfer discussions following the Champions League final, with Inter Milan wanting to discuss the future of Romelu Lukaku, who could be given another chance by incoming Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Lukaku underperformed at Stamford Bridge after joining from the Nerazzurri for £97.5 million last season. He was returned to Italy last summer, despite the fact that the financial elements of the scenario made a loan transaction the only viable option.

Despite there seemed to be no way back for the Belgian in west London, Pochettino is allegedly considering pushing for a return. Chelsea has recently lacked a cutting edge up top, with only three sides scoring less goals in the Premier League this season than Chelsea.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Boehly and co. are due to hold discussions to fix the matter immediately following the Champions League final on June 10.

Lukaku might start for Inter against Manchester City in Istanbul, but it could be his final appearance for the club if Chelsea entices him back to England.

Despite the striker supposedly wanting to stay, Inter finding the money to fulfill the Blues’ £60 million asking price is described as ‘unthinkable’. With a permanent move clearly out of the question, three requirements must be completed for another financing arrangement to be approved.

For starters, the Nerazzurri must qualify for the Champions League, which they are on track to do with Simone Inzaghi’s side presently third in Serie A. Second, Lukaku must be willing to negotiate a reduced wage.

The 30-year-old, who is reportedly paid £325,000 a week at Stamford Bridge, is reportedly willing to negotiate on that front. Finally, Chelsea will have to accept a lower loan price than they asked a year ago.

For the majority of this season, it appeared as if Lukaku might have no future at Inter after failing to recapture the form he displayed during his first spell at the San Siro. Injuries also slowed his growth, as he only appeared in 17 Serie A games in 2022/23.

However, a recent surge in form has increased his tally to 14 goals this season, prompting Inter to investigate their possibilities this summer, with Lukaku eager to put an end to his ill-fated Chelsea comeback.
