Chelsea Receives Opening Bid of £25m for Player Amid Speculation and Season of Anxiety
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea got a significant bid from Al Hilal to sell Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.
He announced on Twitter that the Saudi Arabian club had made a bid of roughly £25 million for the defender, who has only been with the club for a year.
Koulibaly’s debut season in England was far from ideal, despite his arrival with much anticipation after a string of successful years at Napoli.
Despite his experience, he never cut an assured figure at the back, leaving the club hoping he can be a leader alongside Thiago Silva.
This, however, has not transpired. He was also chastised by Ian Wright, who said he appeared’very worried’ last season.
Even though he only joined the Blues this summer, sources say that the Blues are hoping to transfer him on immediately.
Inter Milan reportedly expressed interest in the deal, but due to financial constraints, they could only complete a loan.
The wealthy Saudi Arabian league has now expressed interest in an offer for the Senegal international, with Romano reporting the proposal includes a three-year contract.
“Understand the opening bid from Al Hilal to Chelsea for Kalidou Koulibaly is around €25/30m,” he stated. The talks will continue in the coming days. The athlete has been offered a three-year contract.”
The Blues are more likely to accept a deal for Koulibaly provided they have some assurance that brilliant youngster Levi Colwill is willing to sign a new contract to stay at Stamford Bridge.
After a fantastic loan period with Brighton, they are eager to break their transfer record to purchase the Englishman, but Chelsea are emphatic that he is not for sale.
