Chelsea’s Havertz praised by Potter as Blues’ switch to back three pays off

-

Graham Potter, the head coach of Chelsea, has praised Kai Havertz and described him as a pleasure to work with. Recently, Havertz has performed well along with the rest of the team, leading to a three-game winning streak for the Blues.

In the last two games against Borussia Dortmund and Leicester City, Havertz scored two goals, which has helped to alleviate some of the pressure and boost morale at Chelsea.

Despite criticism for consistently selecting Havertz, who has only scored eight goals in 35 appearances this season, Potter has continued to choose him as a starter.

During Chelsea’s challenging period, the team’s manager has consistently supported his players and received public praise from Havertz after their impressive victory against Dortmund in the Champions League, which secured their spot in the quarter-finals against Real Madrid. Havertz expressed his admiration for the manager, acknowledging the immense pressure he faces from the media and the public.

“We have hundreds of coaches in England, you know, that think they know better than him! We know in the changing room that he has a big personality and a big manager for us!

“He helps us all a lot, me included, so we are 100 percent behind him. Even though the people don’t see it, today everyone saw that he’s a big manager.”

Recently, Havertz has shown improvement in his performance, but he has also revealed that the team’s poor results have taken a toll on his personal life. Potter believes that Havertz is a player who relies on confidence to perform well, but also needs support during difficult times.

“He is a confident player but also someone you need to help,” said Potter ahead of their Premier League fixture against Everton.

“I can’t speak highly enough of him. He’s given everything all the time, does his absolute best, takes responsibility, an absolute dream to work with as a coach, wants to learn, wants to improve and gives his best for the team. He deals with adversity in a sensible, mature way and rides out the storm. And inevitably because of the quality he has (as a player) and as a person, he’ll get his rewards.”

Chelsea has altered their formation to a back three, which has contributed to their recent success, including scoring six goals in the last three games. When asked about Havertz’s best position, Potter stated that, while he is still young and versatile, his most suitable role is probably just behind the front line, rather than leading it.

Although, I wouldn’t rule anything out with Kai because the mentality is really there and he’s got all the attributes to do anything.”
