Chelsea’s Winning Spirit Unleashed: Christopher Nkunku Transfer Confirmed Despite Champions League Setback

Chelsea is poised to secure the transfer of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig, even if they do not qualify for the Champions League. The forward is expected to join the club for €60m, and the deal has already been finalized. This unconventional transfer approach by Chelsea has been reported by Sky Sports Germany, who confirm that Nkunku will be a part of the Chelsea squad for the upcoming season, regardless of the club’s performance in the Premier League.

Despite signing a new contract with RB Leipzig in June 2022, Christopher Nkunku has been the subject of transfer rumors linking him to Chelsea. These reports intensified towards the end of last year, and now it appears that the deal has been completed early into the 2022-23 season. According to Plettenberg, there is no release clause in the deal, which will cost Chelsea €60m (£52m/$64m). Nkunku is expected to sign a long-term contract with the club, and an official announcement is likely to be made at the end of the season.

Upon his arrival, the 25-year-old Christopher Nkunku will be joining an already crowded squad at Chelsea, which head coach Graham Potter has only recently begun to manage effectively. In the January transfer window, Chelsea made several acquisitions, including Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, and Joao Felix, to bolster their attacking options. However, the addition of Nkunku will require the club to make room for him in the squad.

In the summer transfer window, Chelsea is expected to see departures, including the possibility of Mason Mount stalling on a new contract. Despite potential exits, the club has also been linked to making Joao Felix’s loan move permanent, which would further complicate head coach Graham Potter’s squad management next season, albeit in a positive way.

Christopher Nkunku has had a productive season so far, scoring 17 goals in 27 games across all competitions, despite being hampered by injuries. While Nkunku and RB Leipzig appear to be in good stead for Champions League qualification next season, Chelsea is still struggling to climb out of mid-table in the Premier League.
