Clearlake Capital makes a Chelsea statement amid Todd Boehly’s argument regarding Potter’s future.
Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s £4.25 billion buyout of Chelsea was won Transaction of the Year at the 2022 Private Equity International awards.
Last year, the club was placed up for sale after the UK Government decided to penalize former owner Roman Abramovich as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Chelsea was subsequently bought for £2.5 billion, plus £1.75 billion in pledged investment over the next ten years.
Chelsea’s season has been rough so far under the new ownership. A managerial change, a slew of new acquisitions, a completely new sporting department, and poor Premier League results have put current head coach Graham Potter under increasing pressure.
Clearlake has declared that they will be the recipients of the Transaction of the Year Award in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) at the 2022 Private Equity International awards following their arrival in May 2022.
Clearlake responded to the news on Twitter, writing, “Clearlake is proud to announce that our investment in Chelsea FC was awarded Deal of the Year in EMEA in the PEI 2022 Awards.”
Chelsea’s off-the-field major project is now the new stadium plans. Chelsea’s alternatives have been disclosed amid hopes of remaining at Stamford Bridge, with the’most likely’ outcome right now being demolition and rebuilding.
Meanwhile, the future of head coach Potter is dividing the Chelsea management. He is said to be fighting to persuade many senior individuals at the club that he has the authority needed to run the club in the long term.
Boehly, on the other hand, disagrees and is one of his most ardent supporters, eager to preserve trust in the 47-year-old despite the catastrophic results that have seen Chelsea drop to 10th in the Premier League and lose their last three games.
