David de Gea fires back at critics as he hints at Manchester United future

Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea is out of contract at Manchester United at the end of the season, but his performances suggest he is far from done, and he says he has nothing to show to anyone.

Manchester United’s No. 1 has faced doubts about his future at Old Trafford for numerous years, but he has always come back to quiet his critics. Some see his exclusion from Spain’s World Cup selection as more proof that his talents are diminishing.

However, he has been in terrific form for United both before and after the finals, as Erik ten Hag’s men have transformed themselves into   title candidates. De Gea’s performance against Crystal Palace on Wednesday, which included one brilliant save in particular, a fingertip stop to deny Odsonne Edouard, was another timely reminder that he’s a long way from being finished yet.

He said: “I don’t have to show anything, I have shown already for many years my qualities. I know people love to talk, but I’m used to that.

Transfer Updates

“I’m just performing as well as I can, helping the team and trying my best all the time. Experience makes it easier to block out the noise. I live a lot of things, I get through many, many difficult moments.

“I don’t care to be honest, I just focus on my games, on my training and on my team. I’m feeling great, I’m feeling really well. I’m helping the team, training well, feeling confident. Like the whole team, we’re playing well.”

Unsurprisingly, he was pleased as punch with the save that denied Edouard. He added: “It was a great save, to be honest. As soon as I saw the ball coming I doubted if I could make the save, but I touched the ball a bit. It was a great save, especially as we scored soon after, so I’m good, I’m feeling really good, let’s keep going.”

If United want to maintain their title hopes, they must defeat Arsenal on Sunday. Although the fact that they will be missing midfield general Casemiro due to suspension is a significant setback.

Asked how huge a loss the Brazilian will be, De Gea said: “Massive. Massive. We’ll be without one of the team’s greatest players for Sunday’s game.

“All over the pitch he’s aiding the team – defensively, offensively — he’s one of the finest in the world in his position for sure. His experience is incredible, and he is an asset to the team. However, we have more guys that want to participate and will demonstrate their abilities.”

For the first time in a long time, an Arsenal-United match will be played. have an impact on the title race. And De Gea, who once made 14 saves in a game against the Gunners, added: “Both teams have always been massive clubs, great teams, always playing to win trophies.

“So it’s nice to play now when both teams are in a good shape and playing well. It’s going to be a massive game. We want to win and we will go to London to try to beat them.

“They always have quality players, they want to play from the back and fast players in front. I remember the game with 14 saves, that was a great game, especially because we won. Hopefully, I can make another big game. It could be a massive three points for us.”
