Erik ten Hag reluctantly transfers Wantaway has made a U-turn.

Manchester United’s business in the January transfer window appears to be incomplete, with Erik ten Hag likely to make a series of appearances from Old Trafford before the deadline.

Despite Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s suggestion that he stay, Facundo Pellistri is allegedly close to signing a loan deal with Brazilian giants Flamengo.

Pellistri, 21, debuted for the Red Devils earlier this month, more than two years after signing with the club. The Uruguayan winger gave a solid first impression as well, assisting Marcus Rashford and helping United reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Post-match, Ten Hag hinted that Pellistri would remain at Old Trafford, having spent much of the past two seasons with Spanish side Deportivo Alaves. Now, though, it appears that the ex-Penarol starlet, who wants more game-time, will be packing his bags again.

Transfer Updates

Pellistri is in early talks with Flamengo to join them on loan before the January transfer window closes later this month. Boss Vitor Pereira has already granted his consent, and Old Trafford officials have managed to get his full salary.

Flamengo’s rivals, Botafogo, also tried to recruit Pellistri but were unable to match the Red Devils’ demands. Furthermore, as former midfielder Andreas Pereira spent last season on loan with the Rio de Janeiro-based powerhouse, United already have a relationship with Flamengo authorities.

Many Red Devils fans may be surprised by the transfer, especially given Ten Hag’s recent comments about the Uruguay international, who played in the World Cup. “I see a future in him,” United boss Jose Mourinho said. ” I see a future in him,” the United manager affirmed. “He is doing well and we have to see what is the best. He is progressing. AgainstEverton[in a behind-closed doors friendly], I was really happy with his performance.

“I was happy with his performance at the World Cup so his progress is really good and now he is coming on and has an effect. So that’s the next step that I say: ‘well done Pelli, keep going’. Ten Hag later added: “I mentioned already Pellistri came on and it was a debut. It was not long but he was lively, some good actions and also the assist on the second goal.”

Anthony Elanga, another wide forward, might follow Pellistri out the door. The 21-year-old Swedish international is wanted on a half-season loan by Borussia Dortmund, Everton, and Bournemouth.

Ten Hag, on the other hand, has downplayed speculations of Elanga’s exit, admitting: “I know we have strong players, and I know a lot of clubs are interested in individuals who aren’t playing as much for us. But we require the squad. We need depth in the squad, particularly on the frontline.”
