Erik ten Hag’s Controversial Response Regarding Manchester United and Brighton’s Transfer Spending

Erik ten Hag asserts that transfer fees are inflated when Manchester United is interested in a particular player.

Brighton and Hove Albion outplayed Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday with a dreadful performance.

Three goals from Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross, and Joao Pedro gave the Seagulls a convincing 3-1 victory. Youngster Hannibal Mejbri recorded a goal for United.

After the match, United boss Ten Hag was asked about United’s spending compared to Brighton’s.

The Dutchman stated, “Every team has spent a great deal of money. Brighton have expended funds. When Manchester United attend, the price increases. This is also correct.”

This remark from United’s manager has caused a stir as United once again spent heavily during the summer transfer window.

The Old Trafford club spent money to acquire players such as Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund.

Brighton’s starting XI against United on Saturday cost less than £16.6 million whilst Red Devils full-back Diogo Dalot cost £19 million alone.

Furthermore, according to the Football Observatory CIES, United has spent more money than any other team in the world to build their current squad.

They have spent a staggering £991,7 million on their current playing squad, while Chelsea has spent £977,9 million.

Ten Hag stated regarding his team’s performance, “We are disappointed. But the margins were extremely narrow. We’re so close against a formidable opponent. The first twenty minutes were entirely ours.”We generated opportunities but did not score. We conceded a goal on their first offensive attempt. Then, during a difficult stretch of the game, we fought for a goal, but it was disallowed.”

He added, “Thus, it is a difficult time. It has not fallen in our favor, but we will fight back and return if we stick together, play as a team, and follow the rules.

United begin their Champions League season on Wednesday against German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
