Bruno Fernandes may face trouble following the remarks made by Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, regarding Mikel Arteta of Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta’s firm approach in dealing with disruptive players within his team has played a significant role in his recent achievements as the manager of Arsenal. If Erik ten Hag truly respects Arteta’s leadership style, it could mean that Bruno Fernandes will soon face the consequences of his actions at Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta didn’t waste any time in replacing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette at the Emirates Stadium after they displayed attitude problems. Bruno Fernandes’ conduct on Sunday was the final straw for many who have been critical of his behavior since he joined Manchester United. His exaggerated reactions and constant complaining have been two common points of criticism since he arrived in England in January 2020. Both of these behaviors were on full display during a disappointing performance at Anfield, where Liverpool handed Ten Hag’s team a 7-0 defeat. Fernandes has faced widespread criticism in the aftermath, including strong words from Gary Neville during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game.

He said on commentary: “Honestly, some of his behaviour has been a disgrace, [even if] he’s been brilliant at times, his assists and goals.

“The second half has been a disgrace, a shambles, epitomised by Fernandes, who has been embarrassing at times.”

And ahead of an expected change of permanent captaincy if Harry Maguire leaves this summer, Chris Sutton believes Fernandes should never deputise for the United skipper again.

“There are people that are far better qualified to be captain. Fernandes is not their best leader,” Sutton explained.

“There are more suitable candidates than him, Casemiro being one. I think he should never put on the armband again for Manchester United.”

Erik ten Hag has previously expressed admiration for Mikel Arteta’s work at the Emirates Stadium, indicating that he might draw inspiration from Arteta’s resolute decision-making in north London.

“I think in the Premier League, there are many incredibly good coaches at this moment. He [Arteta] is definitely one of them,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports in January.

“What he’s doing, he’s the best at this moment because it’s really a big performance. It’s huge what he’s doing.”

And that could be bad news for Fernandes if he continues to reportedly ‘irritate’ figures at United, including team-mates, with his attitude on the pitch.
