Erling Haaland presents his favorite goal from Manchester City’s record-breaking season.
Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s goal machine, has picked his bicycle kick against Southampton as his favorite strike this season.
Haaland has 36 goals to choose from (and counting). However, he confessed that his personal favorite came in the 68th minute of Manchester City’s match against Southampton. The Cityzens took a 3-0 lead after the attacker snuck into the box and met a Jack Grealish cross with an acrobatic bicycle kick.
Haaland discussed his favorite goal at the Football Writers’ Association awards, saying, “The bicycle kick against Southampton was something special, right?” To suspend this massive body in the air like that!”
This season, Haaland has been worth every penny for City, scoring 52 goals in all competitions as Pep Guardiola’s team is three games away from completing the third treble in English football history.
Man City will conclude their 2022-23 title defense at Brentford. With two finals coming up, Haaland isn’t necessarily a lock to start.
On the final day of the Premier League season, Erling Haaland might break Thierry Henry’s record.
Erling Haaland, who has matched Thierry Henry’s record when Manchester City drew with Brighton, might become the latest great to have his record broken.
On the final day of the Premier League season, Erling Haaland has the chance to shatter yet another record formerly held by Thierry Henry.
In Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at Brighton, the Manchester City prodigy set up Phil Foden for his 44th direct goal involvement (scoring or assisting). It was Haaland’s eighth assist of the season, which, along with his incredible tally of 36 goals, ties him with Arsenal icon Henry in total involvements.
Four of Henry’s goal contributions came in Arsenal’s final league game of the season, a 4-0 away win against Sunderland. Despite the fact that the title was already secured by Manchester United, Arsene Wenger’s side won large thanks to Henry’s opening goal and three assists for hat-trick hero Freddie Ljungberg.
Meanwhile, Haaland has already set numerous records since joining City from Borussia Dortmund last summer, including scoring the most Premier League goals in a 38-game season as City defeated Henry’s old club to win the title. The Citizens are now aiming for a treble by defeating arch rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final and winning the Champions League against Inter.
Of course, the 22-year-old striker has been crucial this season, much as Henry was to Arsenal’s success both before and after the turn of the century. Last Sunday, Haaland won his first trophy as a City player, telling Sky Sports: “I saw a stat of Arsenal being 240 something days top of the table, and we were like 20.”
