“Expectation is” – Fabrizio Romano expects £255k-p/w duo to exit Anfied

Liverpool midfielders Naby Keta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to depart Jürgen Klopp’s club for free in the summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Both players’ contracts expire at the conclusion of the season, and no renewal is presently expected at the time of writing.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is torn between leaving Anfield this month and waiting until he becomes a free agent in the summer.

numerous top-flight teams will be vying for his signature when his contract with the Reds expires, but the midfielder may be afraid of the free market getting saturated during the next transfer window.

Transfer Updates

Meanwhile,  Liverpool is prepared to exchange Keita for Croatia midfielder Marcelo Brozovi in a swap deal with Inter Milan.

Last month, Sky Sports writer Dharmesh Sheth told GiveMeSport that the future of the 46-cap Guinea international was something to keep an eye on at Anfield this month.

However, Romano is aware that, as things stand, both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keta will be free agents at the conclusion of the season.

Romano told GiveMeSport: “As of today, the expectation is for Naby Keïta to leave on a free and that’s the same for Oxlade-Chamberlain as well.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who makes £125k per week according to Salary Sport, has battled for regular playing time with the Reds in recent seasons, appearing in only 19% of available Premier League minutes this season, according to Transfermarkt.

Meanwhile, Keta has failed to make the impression anticipated of him since his £48 million arrival at Anfield in July 2018, with the £130k-per-week earner making 125 appearances in four and a half years, scoring 11 goals and giving seven assists, according to the same data source.

With both players expected to depart the club at the end of the season, Liverpool will be free to pursue their targeted midfield targets ahead of the 2023/24 season in the summer, with Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes seemingly being at the top of their list.

Therefore, it seems unlikely that one of Oxlade-Chamberlain or Keïta has a future at Anfield beyond May and both players will be pre-planning their next move in the market.
