Graham Potter explains why Mason Mount did not play for Chelsea against Aston Villa.

Mason Mount did not play against Aston Villa, according to Graham Potter.

According to Football, he said this during the post-match press conference. Chelsea manager Graham Potter explained why he did not use Mason Mount at all against Aston Villa.

The Blues would have been expected to respond strongly after their international break. However, they were extremely disappointing, as the club was defeated 2-0 by Unai Emery’s side.

Chelsea felt like she was back at square one after a few weeks of positive results. They struggled to create anything meaningful as their bad habits crept back into their game.

Despite the need for offensive impetus, Mason Mount remained on the bench the entire game. The English attacking midfielder is having a difficult time at Chelsea due to off-field issues.

Mount is someone who, as he has done so many times in the past, can change the game with a single pass or a flash of magic. Despite this, Potter chose to leave him on the bench as his team suffered yet another defeat.

Here’s what Potter had to say about why he didn’t use the talented midfielder at all in the game against Villa.

“I just felt like we were in the game with Mason.” We built some attacking subs and wanted to see how it all came together. Mason is returning after only a few days of training.”

Can Mount turn things around?

What happens to Mason at Chelsea will have to wait. The talented midfielder has been a Blues boy his entire career, but that may be coming to an end.

If Potter truly wants to turn the situation around, he’d be better off starting Mount rather than leaving him on the bench. We’ve seen how good he can be in the past.
