Paul Parker understands the fans’ frustration with their ‘immature’ new winger Antony. The Brazilian has had a sluggish start to life at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old Brazilian forward joined United from Ajax for £85 million in the summer. His stock increased at the Johan Cruff Arena, where he appeared in 82 games, scoring 24 goals and assisting on 22 others.

Antony began his Red Devils career by becoming the club’s first player to score in his first three Premier League games. However, he has now cooled off and increased his tally to five goals in 17 games across all competitions

Parker knows why fans may be upset with the Brazilian, but he believes the winger will need time to adjust to the English game. He stated to Soccernews:

Antony has done okay for Man United. He hasn’t been amazing, but he is also young and needs to adapt to the Premier League.” Parker then touched on why fans are becoming impatient with Antony by suggesting that he’s not the player they envisioned: “But honestly, I think that the vast majority of the fans have been disappointed by him. They expected a different kind of player. They expected him to be very quick and run past defenders, but he hasn’t done that.”

He continued by claiming that the Brazilian seems immature when playing and that he lacks confidence in beating defenders: “I think that he is thinking too slow, and he seems very immature on the pitch. He needs to beat people more and believe in himself because he has the abilities to be a very good winger for Man United.”Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov praises former side for Manchester City win Manchester United secured a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over neighbours Manchester City in the derby on Saturday (January 14).

Pep Guardiola’s team took the lead thanks to a header from Jack Grealish. However, Bruno Fernandes equalized before Marcus Rashford slammed home a close-range winner. United moved to within one point of City in fourth place.

Berbatov was thrilled by the performance and the way Erik ten Hag’s team battled back to win, telling Premier League Productions:

“They are a proper team and appear to be one, which is why I felt this win is essential, but even more important is how they get it since being 1-0 down against City is a major problem.”

Manchester United became the first Premier League team to come back from a 1-0 deficit against Manchester City since March 2021. Berbatov had this to say about it:

“Not many teams can overcome such a result. But “That is a difficult result for many teams to overcome. But when you do it, it gives you even more confidence and cause to be joyful after the game, and it lets you know you’re on the right track in terms of developing team spirit, as we saw.”

On Wednesday, the Red Devils will travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace (January 18). Four days later, they will meet league leaders Arsenal.
