Ian Wright and Mikel Arteta agree on Arsenal’s priority Amid Bukayo Saka and William Saliba’s plans

Bukayo Saka and William Saliba have been instrumental in Arsenal’s title challenge this season, but they have yet to commit to long-term contracts at the Emirates Stadium.

Ian Wright has pushed Arsenal to sign a new contract with William Saliba. Despite a rather unknown future, the 21-year-old has played an important role in Arsenal’s title chase this season.

Saliba’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of next season, and with the defender eligible to start pre-contract discussions in January, several top-flight European teams have began to keep an eye on his position.

With Paris-Saint-Germain keeping an eye on the French international’s growth, Spylax Media understands that talks over a new contract are proceeding well in an attempt to secure Saliba’s services in the long term. While Arsenal is eager to re-sign Saka, Wright has advised his former team to put ‘all the eggs in the Frenchman’s basket.

Wright explained to Premier League Productions on Saturday why the north Londoners should prioritize obtaining Saliba’s signature first — even before Saka. He stated: “A defender, and I feel the same way about central midfielders, needs to play often to come to know the position, especially at his age.

“That’s why they sent him out [on loan] again. Arsenal fans were a little disappointed because we felt that we needed him. But you look at him, now, the way he has started the season and the way he plays. It’s fantastic.

“He’s a full international off the back of it,” Wright said. “People talking about Saka, and Saka signing a new deal, and we know how much we need Saka. I don’t think there was any real problems with that happening because of his connection with the club. But I think all the eggs need to go in the Saliba basket. We got to make sure we keep this guy.”

Saka has informed Arsenal of his desire to stay. Arteta remarked before of the trip to Leicester: “We want to keep our best players. The players we are developing.”

Then, when asked what a new deal for Saka means for young players at the club, Arteta replied: “That’s what we have to do, that’s our responsibility. To keep our best players, our best people. Those that have the same aims and same purposes as the club.”
