Ilkay Gundogan speaks up about Manchester City’s future amid a transfer battle between Arsenal and Barcelona.

Ilkay Gundogan, captain of Manchester City, has spoken about his future at the Etihad Stadium.

Ilkay Gundogan has spoken out about his future at Manchester City, amid reports of interest from Arsenal and Barcelona.

Gundogan scored both goals as Pep Guardiola’s team upset local rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final on Saturday. The German international is in the final four weeks of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, so if he does not agree to new terms with the Citizens before then, he will be available on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old has now spoken openly about his future at City, acknowledging that nothing has been settled yet. After the victory at Wembley, he told the BBC about his next steps: “To be honest, I don’t need these kinds of days to feel appreciated and special in this club.”

“I know that, that is why I am here already seven years with all the ups and downs I’ve had so far. Nothing is decided yet so we’re gonna see what’s going to happen.”

The former Borussia Dortmund playmaker had an outstanding 2022/23 season, scoring 11 goals and giving six assists across all competitions. Gundogan is ready to ‘end the chapter’ on his time in the Premier League, according to Sport, and has been persuaded to join La Liga club Barcelona.

Xavi’s team is claimed to have given him a three-year contract, which is a year longer than their first two-year offer.
