‘I’m getting stick,’ says Callum Wilson, reacting to Arsenal fans booing their own man.

Callum Wilson has hit out at Arsenal fans for their treatment of Granit Xhaka, saying he ‘got stick’ after arguing with the midfielder during Newcastle United’s 2-0 loss to Mikel Arteta’s side.

Ten days ago, Arsenal defeated Eddie Howe’s Newcastle 2-0 at St James’ Park, and after the game, Callum Wilson spoke about his altercation with Granit Xhaka.

The 17-goal striker then told fans that he couldn’t let Granit Xhaka talk to him like that because ‘you are from the street’.

The 17-goal striker then told fans that he couldn’t let Granit Xhaka talk to him like that because ‘you are from the street’.

Arsenal fans appear to have reacted negatively to the 31-year-old’s words.

But, according to the Footballer’s Football podcast, he has retaliated by recalling Arsenal fans ‘booing’ Xhaka when he was team captain under Unai Emery.

When asked if Arsenal had ‘bottled’ the league, the Newcastle striker was hesitant to respond, explaining why.

“Listen, I am not getting into it too much (about whether Arsenal have bottled the title race),” laughed Wilson.

“These Arsenal fans, it’s difficult for me because, at the end of the day, I am getting stick for arguing with one of their players (Xhaka) and that was a player they were booing themselves, not so long ago.

“I am kind of like, ‘I don’t know whether to say anything or whether not say anything’.

“But as a fan of football,” starts to laugh. “Basically, you would be thoroughly disappointed to not win the league and only end up with the Champions League after finishing the season where they might finish.

“At the end of the day, they have been leading the season for the majority of the season, haven’t they?! So, to throw it away, like they have, they are going to be disappointed. Fans, players and staff.”

IS XHAKA LEAVING ARSENAL?

One thing Arsenal fans can’t deny is that their relationship with Xhaka was previously quite nasty.

Everyone expected Xhaka to stroll past Arteta as soon as he went through the doors in 2019 because of that notorious event against Crystal Palace.

However, fast forward to the present, and he has turned his career around at the Emirates in the most remarkable of ways – even Ian Wright concedes that he is now ‘eating humble pie’.
