Julian Alvarez sends a message to Phil Foden After completing a Man City milestone
The striker praised Foden for scoring his first league goal since the World Cup against Bournemouth.
The England international honored the occasion by scoring just before halftime in City’s 4-1 victory over Bournemouth, his first goal in the Premier League since November. Foden has been in and out of Pep Guardiola’s starting Lineup due to the form of colleagues and injuries, but Alvarez emphasized how important he is to the Blues’ arsenal.
“He’s really important for us,” Alvarez said of Foden while speaking to club media. “It’s not easy to get that many appearances for City. He’s really helping us and I’m really happy for him.”
Alvarez scored his tenth goal of the season in the triumph at the Vitality Stadium, and he also hit the shot that contributed to Chris Mepham’s own goal in the second half.
The World Cup winner played a full 90 minutes in the Premier League for only the fourth time this season and was delighted with his performance.
He added: “Very happy with my performance. I’m always ready whenever the manager needs to call on me and today was a great game.”
Erling Haaland also scored on the night, assisted by Foden, and Alvarez was pleased that City were able to hit the net four times and earn maximum points, narrowing the deficit to Arsenal to two points despite having played one more game.
“We’re very thrilled, but we need to keep accumulating points,” the Argentine remarked. It’s a long season, but I’m pleased with today’s effort and three points.
“We knew it was a really important game for us to win so the games are coming thick and fast and now it’s onto the next one.”
The Blues play Bristol City in the FA Cup on Tuesday before hosting Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.
