Jurgen Klopp has given the ‘green light’ to a second Liverpool signing, with a deadline set for the midfielder.
This summer, Liverpool has already made a bid to recruit Alexis MacAllister to their midfield ranks.
According to rumours, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given the go-ahead for Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch to become the Reds’ newest summer signing. The Reds are thought to be focused on boosting their midfield ranks before the start of the new season, having already made a start with the signing of Alexis MacAllister from Brighton and Hove Albion.
There is a chance that Liverpool will follow up the signing of Mac Allister by bringing Gravenberch to Merseyside, despite the Dutchman failing to impress at Bayern Munich since joining from Ajax last summer. According to The Mirror, he is already eager to leave the Allianz Arena in pursuit of a fresh challenge, with Liverpool pursuing a bid for his signature in the coming weeks.
Liverpool’s interest in Gravenberch is thought to be at a ‘advanced’ stage, with club executives willing to back Klopp in his pursuit of the 21-year-old this summer. However, the athlete has previously stated that his future will not be decided until after the conclusion of the under-21 European Champions, which will take place at the beginning of next month.
“I haven’t really talked to the coach about that yet, that will come after the European Championship when I’m back from Georgia and Romania, then we will see how it is,” he said. “I just want to play more, preferably at Bayern Munich, and otherwise at a club where I play 100 per cent.
“That is my preference because I don’t want to have another year like the one I’ve had now. One season like that is good, I learned a lot, but I just want to play football.”
Bayern Munich recently completed the signing of Konrad Laimer, who will push Gravenberch even lower down the pecking order, and Thomas Tuchel is said to be anxious to add more quality to his midfield ranks between now and the start of next season. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be able to capitalize on the situation by getting the Dutchman to Anfield before the new season begins.
However, there is still a chance that Bayern Munich may try to keep Gravenberch for at least another season, with club president Herbert Hainer recently emphasizing his affection for the former Ajax player despite his difficult first year in Germany.
“In my opinion, he is an incredibly talented player,” Hainer told Bild. “That’s why we brought him. He got more playing time towards the end of the season. I’m sure he’ll get more playing time in the future.”
