Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has openly hinted at a potential retirement date from football management.

After comparing himself to Roy Hodgson, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hinted at the end of his glittering coaching career.

Klopp joined Liverpool from Borussia Dortmund in 2015 and has been instrumental in turning around the club’s Premier League fortunes.

The 55-year-old German guided Liverpool to the Champions League title in 2018-19 before winning the Premier League in 2019-20.

Klopp won the League Cup and the FA Cup at the end of last season, but he fell short of winning his second Champions League title with Liverpool.

The former Dortmund manager, who had previously been linked with the German national team, put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new contract with Liverpool until 2022.

Klopp’s two-year contract extension keeps him at Anfield until 2026, making him the club’s longest-serving manager since the legendary Bob Paisley.

The former Mainz manager discussed his meeting with former Liverpool manager Hodgson, who left Watford last season.

Klopp insisted that he does not see himself as a manager “beyond 70” and does not intend to stay in the game as long as Hodgson, 75.

“I know I fantasize about football, so that’s not cool… “The job is extremely demanding, but it’s also fantastic,” he said on BT Sport’s Michael Calvin’s Football People podcast.

“So that’s why I say when Roy Hodgson came back again, when he came in, I saw him and ask him ‘do you have a wet flat? ‘Are you going again?’ and he says ‘no, I love it,’ so I can’t see myself at 70 still standing on the dugout in every weather, especially for training, one and a half to two hours in the wind.

“I don’t see it. But I understand where they’re coming from, and I hope that other things are as interesting to me that I’m fine with not being involved anymore.”
