Klopp has the Forgotten Solution in Absence of Thiago ahead of UCL game against Real Madrid

After waiting for a while, Jürgen Klopp can now utilize Liverpool’s overlooked Thiago Alcântara solution, following Real Madrid’s wait. Although there is no specified timeline for his return from injury, Klopp only needs to wait for one more game to have this solution available.

Liverpool is set to face Real Madrid with a fairly healthy squad, but unfortunately, one of their key players, Thiago Alcântara, is still unable to play due to injury. Despite being one of Liverpool’s top midfielders, the Spanish international has not played since February, and his return date remains uncertain.

Klopp is attempting to cope without Thiago’s leadership in the midfield, but Liverpool is encountering issues, as evidenced by their 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday. This loss was particularly frustrating for Klopp, as Bournemouth was ranked at the bottom of the Premier League table at the time, yet they were able to prevent Liverpool from scoring.

Klopp described the defeat as a “proper knock” and expressed his frustration with the team’s inconsistency this season.

Jürgen Klopp will continue to look for solutions within the team until the summer transfer window opens, and his next option may involve a player who was only named on the bench during the previous game.

Arthur Melo has recently returned to fitness after being sidelined for approximately six months due to a significant injury. Although he did not play against Bournemouth, he may be a potential solution to Liverpool’s midfield problems in the absence of Thiago. However, he was not included in the Champions League squad in January, so he will not even be able to feature on the substitute list for the upcoming match against Real Madrid.

Melo was signed on loan from Juventus last summer as a temporary fix for Liverpool’s midfield. He was intended to be used as a solution for keeping possession and gaining control over the center of the pitch, but his fitness issues have prevented him from fulfilling that role under Klopp.

It will be interesting to see what Arthur Melo can bring to Liverpool between now and the summer, as he is set to be available for selection after the game against Real Madrid.

Over the past four seasons, Melo has demonstrated an impressive pass completion rate of 92.3% over 4,136 passes in Serie A and La Liga. Although these numbers lack context, they do highlight his ability to provide a sense of security on the ball, similar to Thiago. In fact, he may even be more inclined to find a teammate than Thiago.

While Melo may not offer the same level of threat and progression towards the final third and penalty box, he is less likely to lose possession in chaotic moments. Liverpool loaned him as a backup controller who would always show for the ball and mostly keep it, even in turbulent situations. When he arrived at Anfield, he seemed to be the best option to fill in for Thiago as a natural support player who could step in when required.

For the first time since joining Liverpool in September, Melo may have a chance to do just that.
