Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Takes Revenge on Chelsea with Swipe at Caicedo and Lavia
Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Liverpool was fortunate to avoid signing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in the summer, as both players chose to join Chelsea.
The midfield duo’s performances at Chelsea have not lived up to expectations, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggling in the bottom half of the Premier League.
In contrast, Liverpool, bolstered by new midfield recruits like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, has shown significant improvement, currently topping the Premier League table with just one defeat in 16 matches.
Liverpool made efforts to sign Caicedo and Lavia, launching a British record £110 million bid for Caicedo and offering a substantial fee for Lavia.
However, both players rejected Liverpool’s advances and opted for long-term deals at Stamford Bridge. Speaking at an Anfield test event, Klopp took a swipe at the duo in front of Liverpool supporters, stating that the club was fortunate with how the summer transfer dealings unfolded.

Reflecting on the transfer market, Klopp expressed gratitude for the way things worked out, highlighting the positive impact of the signings they did make, such as Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo.
Caicedo, who joined Chelsea for £115 million, has struggled to make a significant impact in the Blues’ midfield, especially compared to his performances at Brighton last season.
Lavia, yet to make a competitive appearance for Chelsea due to injury, will have the opportunity to face Liverpool when the two teams meet at Anfield next month, following their 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on the opening weekend of the season.
