Liverpool Shocked as Coveted Midfield Target Strikes “Total” Agreement with Familiar Rival

According to a source, a Premier League midfielder with whom Liverpool has been closely linked in recent weeks has agreed to join another club for a reduced fee.

This summer, midfield signing are set to dominate the agenda at Anfield. Indeed, with the departures of Arthur Melo (loan expiry), Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (free agents), an overhaul is no longer a luxury.

Alexis MacAllister of Brighton appears to be the first of many to join the Reds. Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi recently announced that the Argentine’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday will most likely be his final game for the club.

A deal of around £70 million is said to have been struck, and trustworthy journalist Gaston Edul said on Sunday night, “Anfield Road awaits.”

The superb Wolves captain, Ruben Neves, was rumored to be following Mac Allister to Merseyside. The 26-year-old Portugal international’s contract expires at the end of next season, meaning he will be permitted to go this summer in order for Wolves to receive a fee.

According to Football Insider, a proposal of around £50 million would be approved, with Liverpool expressing’strong interest’. However, according to the Spanish newspaper AS, Barcelona has seized the Reds.

Indeed, according to AS (through Portuguese publication A Bola), Neves “will become a Barcelona player in the coming days.”

A ‘complete’ agreement, i.e. on both the transfer fee and personal terms, is said to have been reached. Barcelona will pay Wolves roughly €30 million (around £26 million) for the midfielder’s signature.

That is significantly less than what other sites have reported as being required to sign Neves this summer. However, the presence of super agent Jorge Mendes may be influencing this.

Mendes represents Neves and works closely with both Wolves and Barcelona.

According to the Daily Mail, the Neves agreement was ‘orchestrated by Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Neves’ agent Jorge Mendes’.

Manager Xavi is said to have doubts about Neves, but it appears that his advice was ignored in this case.

Barcelona has a track record of undercutting Liverpool in the market. Indeed, the Catalan behemoth has just signed three of Liverpool’s best players, including Javier Mascherano, Luis Suarez, and Philippe Coutinho.

The Spanish club now appears prepared to upset Liverpool once more, this time by signing one of their transfer targets, Ruben Neves.
