After reportedly discussing with a fan who is available on a free transfer, Liverpool cannot afford to repeat the same mistake they made with Arthur Melo in the past. Therefore, the club has been rumored to be interested in signing Adrien Rabiot, a midfielder from Juventus whose contract is set to expire in the coming summer.

The football transfer world is notorious for its constant rumors and speculations, and Adrien Rabiot seems to be a regular subject of such talks. It has almost become a certainty that every transfer window season, the French midfielder’s name will be thrown around as a potential target for several Premier League clubs. Even those who follow Liverpool and Everton’s transfer news closely would know how frequently the 27-year-old’s name pops up, despite there being little substance to these rumors.

Once again, this week, Adrien Rabiot’s name has been linked with Premier League clubs, with reports claiming that Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all shown interest in the Frenchman’s contract situation at Juventus. According to Football Insider, Liverpool has even joined the race for his signature. However, these rumors are nothing new, and we have heard them many times before.

Back in October 2017, when Adrien Rabiot was still playing for Paris Saint-Germain, he expressed his desire to move to the Premier League someday. He also revealed that he was a Liverpool fan since childhood.

“There are a lot of very good leagues,” Rabiot told RMC. “It’s also enriching to go elsewhere, but for the moment I’m happy at PSG.

“I would love to play in the Premier League. There’s not necessarily any club in particular, even though when I was young I was a big Liverpool fan.”

As Rabiot approached the final 18 months of his PSG contract, speculation about his potential move to Liverpool and other clubs began to heat up. He faced Liverpool twice in the Champions League group stages during his final season in Paris, with the second match at the Parc des Princes in November 2018 being his final home appearance for the club.

Rabiot’s relationship with PSG soured in the following months, with him refusing to sign a new contract and subsequently being forced to train with the reserves. He was also suspended in March 2019 for going to a nightclub after PSG’s loss to Manchester United and for liking a Patrice Evra Instagram post celebrating United’s victory.

Despite the issues with his former club, Rabiot managed to secure a move to Juventus on a free transfer in the summer of 2019. However, like Emre Can and Aaron Ramsey, he struggled to make an impact at Juventus, but unlike them, he remains with the club.

While Rabiot has improved his form this season, caution is advised given his past controversial behavior, unsavory exit from PSG, and his age. Furthermore, his agent is known for being controversial and demanding high wages, which could be an issue for Liverpool given their wage bill. While Rabiot is a good player, Liverpool prefers younger signings and may look to sign younger players such as Jude Bellingham, Matheus Nunes, or Mason Mount. Signing Rabiot could also send the wrong message about their revamp, as it could create a feeling of desperation.
