Liverpool’s Klopp optimistic about Diaz and Gomez returning for Manchester City clash
Jurgen Klopp shared that he received an emotional 12-word message from Roberto Firmino after discussions of his exit from Liverpool were made public.
Although Klopp was surprised by Firmino’s decision to leave the team, he believes that Firmino will continue to be dedicated until the end of the season. Firmino’s departure was announced last week, despite efforts by Klopp and the club to keep him on board.
Klopp expressed that he respects Firmino’s choice and that the Brazilian striker is committed to ending his time with Liverpool on a high note.
“Yes, he told me [he was leaving],” Klopp said. “Was I surprised? Yes, a little bit but I was not hit by the surprise, actually it’s a normal thing to do. It could go two ways and it was one and I respect that a lot.
“It’s completely normal in this kind of long relationship that we have and Bobby (Firmino) has with the club and with most of the players and stuff like this, and with the fans of course.
“It’s pretty special and I loved the reception he got when he came on against United. He told me and then the only other thing he said is: ‘Now I want to bring this wonderful story to a positive end’. So, that’s it.”
Jurgen Klopp is optimistic that Luis Diaz will be available for selection when Liverpool take on Manchester City next month, following a long absence due to a knee injury aggravated in December. The winger is set to resume full training next week, and the Premier League game against City on April 1 is reportedly his target for a comeback.
Additionally, Joe Gomez is expected to return to action after the upcoming international break, having suffered a hamstring injury in the Champions League defeat to Real Madrid two weeks ago. Thiago Alcantara has also been sidelined for the past five games with a hip issue, but it is unclear when he will be able to make a return. Klopp is relieved that his injury list is starting to clear, and he looks forward to having more options available in the upcoming matches.
