Man United and Arsenal issued a ruthless transfer warning to Chelsea as the £110 million duo readied for moves.
Mason Mount and Kai Havertz are both on their way out of Chelsea, with moves to Manchester United and Arsenal in the works.
Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has questioned why Mason Mount and Kai Havertz want to leave the club amid reports of moves to Manchester United and Arsenal, respectively.
Mount’s continuing contract dispute has contributed directly to the England international’s desire to depart his boyhood club. Liverpool were early frontrunners, but Manchester United are now favourites to sign him after Stamford Bridge rejected a £40 million opening proposal.
Havertz was linked with a move to Real Madrid, but Chelsea’s exorbitant valuation – £70 million – saw that interest fade. The Gunners, on the other hand, have swooped in and are currently on the verge of signing the Germany international.
The Blues rejected an initial bid for Mount, but there is optimism that a second bid of roughly £60 million will be enough to secure the 24-year-old. Personal terms are regarded to be unimportant for both Mount and Havertz, with the main concerns emerging over a price.
Even though neither Arsenal nor Manchester United are willing to pay Chelsea’s valuation, both clubs’ decisions to seek a deal have been criticized by Leboeuf.
“If you want to move club, it’s because you think it’s a promotion,” Leboeuf told ESPN. “Here me well, I am not saying that Manchester United is at the same level as Chelsea, compared to last season.
“In terms of a club and what they hope to accomplish. Only one club, in my opinion, is better than Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool. Manchester City is the team. If the athlete wants to go, and he is available, I believe he should look for something better, where he can gain anything.
“So, I don’t understand the move of let’s say Havertz to Arsenal or Mount to Manchester United. Like I wouldn’t understand Christian Eriksen from Manchester United to Chelsea. That is the same level, for me.”
