Manchester United will pay Maguire £10 million ‘to get him off their books’ amid calls to ‘get rid’ of four players.

According to rumors, Manchester United are planning to spend £10 million to offload Harry Maguire during the summer transfer window.

The England international’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain, with a move away from the club appearing inevitable this summer due to a lack of playing time.

Erik ten Hag, who has presided over a successful debut season, has favoured Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane as his first-choice center-back pairing, while Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have started ahead of Maguire at times this season.

Maguire has received more criticism than most throughout his stay at Old Trafford, and the Daily Mail reports that he is now’set to quit’ Manchester United in the summer.

According to the claim, if the Englishman quits Old Trafford this summer, he will receive a £10 million pay-off from Manchester United. The FA Cup final this weekend is ‘likely to be Maguire’s last game as a United player,’ according to the club.

Man United value him at £30 million, four years after signing him from Leicester City for £80 million, and with two years remaining on his £190,000-a-week contract, the Red Devils may have to subsidize his wage packet if he goes.

The Daily Mail continue by adding that Maguire would probably ‘make barely half that amount at a new club’ and that would mean Man Utd would have to ‘foot a £10m wage cost to get him off their books’.

Maguire is one of four players which Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand would want to see the club trade in the summer, believing that the England international “needs to look at a new option for himself.”

“McTominay hasn’t played much football, not as much as he would like,” Ferdinand said earlier this week on the Vibe with Five podcast.

“If I was him as a young player I would probably start assessing that situation and start having real hard conversations with the club [asking] ‘do you see me as part of it or not?’.

“If I’m that far down the pecking order I would start looking and I don’t think he will have a problem finding a club, he is a very good footballer and he can add a lot of value. Maguire has to look at a new option for himself. Unless he says he’s happy to be the third or fourth choice.

“Elanga maybe [is another], he is not getting a chance. Martial has proved that he can’t stay fit. I think if you got rid of those four, there is £100million sitting there.

“Elanga isn’t getting the football he deserves. He did well when he came in and still isn’t getting a chance. Big players in front of him but he wants to be playing first team football.”
