Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, is expected to find it easy to compensate for Casemiro’s absence, and he may even consider moving one of his star players to a different position. Casemiro, a Brazilian footballer who joined United from Real Madrid for £70m last summer, has been an excellent addition to the team and has demonstrated his worth with several outstanding performances, despite not being the club’s first-choice midfield signing.

He is even considered a top contender for the Footballer of the Year award in 2023. However, his recent appearances have been marred by a red card in a match against Crystal Palace in February, which led to a three-match ban.

He returned to play against Liverpool, but United lost 7-0. To make matters worse, he was red-carded again in a match against Southampton, resulting in a four-match suspension that will cause him to miss matches against Fukham, Newcastle, Brentford, and Everton.

The recent suspension of Casemiro is expected to have a significant impact on United, potentially harming their chances of finishing in the Champions League positions. However, United has a strong squad with solid depth, which should help them overcome this challenge. In particular, Scott McTominay has recently returned from injury, and Fred has been playing well. Additionally, the arrival of Marcel Sabitzer provides further options for United to consider. Therefore, United has enough quality players to fill the void left by Casemiro’s absence.

According to pundit Alan Hutton, Ten Hag might make an unconventional decision and deploy Bruno Fernandes in a deeper midfield role to compensate for Casemiro’s absence. However, Hutton is confident that United will be able to handle the situation effectively, regardless of who replaces Casemiro.

“It is not ideal but I think they have got strength and depth there,” he said.

“I think he has made them a far better team this season. He is like the glue that sticks everything together.

“But the likes of Fred, he has done well enough, [Scott] McTominay is also there.”

Turning his attention to the prospect of Bruno Fernandes dropping deeper, Hutton explained his thinking.

“Fernandes can sit in that position as well if it is needed.”

With Casemiro suffering a second red in just three Premier League outings, some have suggested the Brazilian may need to adapt his game.

Indeed, having gone eight seasons without a red in LaLiga, he now has two in quick succession for United.

Hutton, however, insists there is no need for Casemiro to alter his style.

“It is not ideal but they will just have to get used to it. He is not going to change his style of play. That is just the way he is.

“I think Ten Hag will have something up his sleeve.”
