Marcus Rashford is approaching the goal-scoring record at Old Trafford that belongs to Cristiano Ronaldo.
On Sunday, during Manchester United’s Premier League match against Southampton, Marcus Rashford will attempt to come closer to breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal record at Old Trafford from 2008. Manchester United recovered from their 7-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend by winning 4-1 against Real Betis in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash on Thursday night. The team is now focused on returning to winning ways in the Premier League and a victory over Southampton would solidify their position in the top four of the table. Rashford has scored in his previous seven home Premier League games, netting against West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Leicester City.
In the Premier League at Old Trafford, only two Manchester United players have achieved a longer streak of consecutive matches with a goal than Marcus Rashford. Wayne Rooney is second on the list with eight consecutive matches, which occurred from December 2009 to March 2010. Cristiano Ronaldo is at the top of the list, scoring in 10 straight Premier League games at Old Trafford between March and November 2008.
During the 2022-23 season, Rashford has been in impressive form for Manchester United, scoring 26 goals and providing nine assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. In the Europa League, he has scored five goals and provided two assists in seven appearances as Manchester United strive to progress to the quarter-finals. Rashford has also recorded one goal and two assists in three FA Cup matches and six goals with two assists in six EFL Cup matches, which led to Manchester United winning the trophy last month.
Marcus Rashford has contributed 14 goals and three assists in 25 Premier League matches this season, helping Manchester United secure third place in the table. While they are currently only one point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in fourth, Manchester United have two games in hand over their North London rivals, and are seven points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool with a game in hand.
Rashford’s contract with Manchester United expires in the summer of 2024, but the club is reportedly negotiating a new long-term deal with his representatives. In a recent interview, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag stated that securing a new contract for the forward is a priority for the club.
Since his debut for Manchester United in 2015, Rashford has scored 119 goals and provided 66 assists in 344 appearances.
