Marcus Rashford of Manchester United recounts private chats concerning Casemiro following Newcastle’s triumph.

Casemiro and Marcus Rashford scored for Manchester United in their 2-0 Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle on Sunday.

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford praised Casemiro following their 2-0 Carabao Cup final victory over Newcastle on Sunday. Erik ten Hag orchestrated a huge triumph at Wembley to break the club’s six-year trophy drought. They’ll be hoping for more silverware now, especially as they’re still in with a possibility of completing a historic quadruple.

Casemiro scored the opening goal against Newcastle, brilliantly smashing home a header following a fine pass from Luke Shaw.

And Rashford sealed the victory before halftime, with his deflected drive looping over Loris Karius and into the net.

United had a day to celebrate after adding another trophy to their impressive collection.

Then, speaking to club media after the game, Rashford singled out Casemiro for praise and revealed what other players were saying about the 31-year-old.

“He makes a huge difference, his leadership and experience in games is huge,” said the United attacker.

“I’ve spoken to some of the other forwards and on the pitch they feel that sense of security behind them.

“It’s massive for us and I’m buzzing for him today, his first trophy for the club and hopefully he can push us now to get even more.”

There is no better feeling for Rashford than winning a cup.

“It’s huge for us to be engaged in these types of games, something that we’ve missed as a club,” he added.

“The fact that we’ve come all this way and we’ve gone on and won is a massive feeling but hopefully it pushes us now to keep going.

I’m happy right now so it doesn’t matter! I’m buzzing with the result, the boys and the staff have put a lot of work in to get here and to go on and win it is just a massive feeling.”

At the start of the season, nobody anticipated United to win anything.

Nonetheless, Ten Hag has overseen a spectacular comeback at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils still competing in three other competitions.

With the final whistle, the Dutchman cut a cheerful figure, engaging in the festivities with the rest of his teammates.

Now, speaking to Sky Sports, he praised the Red Devils for sticking together as they lifted the trophy.

“All I want is to win!” he exclaimed.

“We invested from the start of the season with the staff, and they did an outstanding job with the players – staff and players they are together.

“Together [are] also the fans, [it’s] really astonishing how the fans stay, and there’s true hungerness and a desire for trophies, because Man United stands for championships.

Raphael Varane, Casemiro and David de Gea know how to win championships and you need such men on the pitch to point the squad.

“They have a winning attitude, and they have to bring it into the locker room, in difficult situations, and that is what they have done.”

Nevertheless, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe conceded his team wasn’t ruthless enough in front of goal throughout the game.

“I thought we performed well tonight; there are always small margins of win and defeat,” he remarked.

“I thought the final third today, but we were frustrated with surrendering from a set play, and goals alter games, but I thought we were in it right until the end, and if we got the third goal of the game, it would have made it an intriguing finale to the match, but it just didn’t come for us.”

When questioned if his side were unlucky to be losing at half time, he added: “Very much so, I think we had the better chances early in the encounter.

“Overall, I believe we can be extremely proud of our effort, but we simply weren’t clinical enough in front of goal, and the two goals, I’m not sure if it’s a free-kick, but we need to defend those situations better.”
