Marcus Rashford Poised by Wayne Rooney to Break Manchester United’s All-Time Goals Record
Wayne Rooney believes Marcus Rashford can surpass his 253 goals for Manchester United and become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Rashford has been our attacking spark this season, scoring 27 goals across all competitions, but he will need to maintain that form in order to surpass Rooney’s record.
On current form, I don’t believe there is a better forward player in the game, and United will hope to capitalize on that between now and the end of the season.
Rashford currently has 120 goals for Manchester United, which ranks him 19th all-time on the club’s all-time scoring list.
He needs another 133 goals to equal Rooney’s legendary total, but some Stretty News writers believe he could hit 40 this season.
“I think we’ve all known about Marcus, even before he was in the first team, coming through the academy,” Rooney told CNN. “He’s a top player and he fell off a little bit over the last 18 months especially. And again, I think Ten Hag has come in and really simplified it for him.
“I’m not a player who sits on records and hopes no one breaks them. I hope he does it and the reasons why [with] him being a Manchester lad coming through the academy.
“I think it’s a great story and it means he’s been very successful with the club and been there a long time and scored a lot of goals if he does do it. So I hope he does.
“I think he certainly has the ability and the capabilities to be able to do it. I’m sure, or I hope, sometime in the next few years I’ll be able to pass that mantle onto him.”
Let us know in the comments section if you think Rashford will surpass Rooney’s tally for goals.
I guess a lot will depend on whether he signs a new long-term contract…
