Martin Odegaard gives a favorable review of Jorginho as the Arsenal player prepares for the Everton match.
Martin Odegaard praised Jorginho’s recent efforts as the Arsenal captain explains what his team must do differently against Everton.
Martin Odegaard has outlined the important characteristics that Jorginho has brought to Arsenal following his deadline-day transfer from Chelsea. The Arsenal have put their previous wobbles behind them, winning back-to-back Premier League games against Aston Villa and Leicester.
One week after his miracle shot that went directly to Arsenal’s late winner over Villa, the Italian midfielder provided another confident display against the Foxes. His signing was questioned at the time, but the recent injury problems with Thomas Partey have showed it was another wise move by Mikel Arteta and Edu.
Odegaard was full of praise for the club’s January additions, particularly Jorginho, after the triumph at King Power Stadium, with both having now considerably affected Arsenal’s results.
“[They’re] great guys, they bring a lot of good things to the team,” said Odegaard. “Jorginho especially has a lot of experience. He’s won a lot of things, brings that mentality into the team and helps the young players. It’s great to have him on board.
“He’s a great player, we saw that from the first day when he came here. He brings a lot of quality, he’s very calm on the ball, finds the right passes and dictates the game. He’s nice to play with.”
The league leaders’ next game is a home match against Everton on Wednesday, and the contest is crucial for the Gunners for two reasons. To begin, Arsenal has a game in hand over Manchester City, and a win would put them five points ahead of their title rivals.
The rematch is also one of Arsenal’s just two league losses this season. Following the defeat, Arsenal drew their next game against Brentford before City won all three points the following week at Emirates Stadium.
When asked if the defeat to the Toffees may be used as motivation for Wednesday, the Norwegian international replied, “Of course. Everyone was furious about the game and performance we had there. On Wednesday, we aim to show a different side and get another three points.
“As we’ve said many times we want to win all the games we play. It’s not really something special because it’s a game in hand, another game we want to win and looking forward to it.
“That’s the focus we have to have when we win and lose. We say it after each game. We had a few disappointing results but just came back and did the same thing as when we won. We have to keep that focus, work hard every day and take it step by step. Then we’ll see.”
