Mikel Arteta Confirms Significant Arsenal Injury Blow Following Dramatic Luton Victory

-

Mikel Arteta has confirmed a significant injury setback for Arsenal following their thrilling victory against Luton. The latest injury update from Arteta reveals that Takehiro Tomiyasu is facing an extended absence due to a muscular issue.
Tomiyasu sustained a calf injury during the win against Wolves, prompting Arteta to withdraw him in the late stages. Despite Arteta’s initial optimism expressed in a pre-Luton press conference, subsequent assessments revealed the severity of the injury.

Arteta stated, “We had a scan, and it’s not good news. He’s got a calf injury, and he’s going to be sidelined for a considerable period.”
The absence of Tomiyasu adds to Arteta’s concerns, particularly given the team’s existing full-back injury issues. Both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ben White have faced their own injury challenges this season, with White making his first start in almost a month.

The positive link-up play between White and Bukayo Saka, missing in previous matches, was evident in the Luton game, culminating in a goal.
While Jakub Kiwior is an alternative on the flanks for Arteta, he continues to cope without Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey. Although Partey could potentially return in early 2024, Timber is expected to have a more prolonged recovery, despite his optimistic update during Arsenal’s matchday show. Timber expressed confidence in his progress, aiming for a return before the end of the season, and remains committed to working hard towards recovery.
