Arsenal have lost 12 consecutive Premier League games to Manchester City but Gunners boss Mikel Arteta wants to stop that barren run Mikel Arteta has promised to break his Manchester City curse when Pep Guardiola arrives at the Emirates Stadium this weekend. Arsenal have lost 15 of their last 16 games against the defending champions, including 12 consecutive Premier League contests.

Arteta’s only competitive victory over City as a manager occurred in the 2020 FA Cup final, but he defeated his former club in the Community Shield just two months ago. City have become something of a bogey team for the Gunners in recent years, losing only eight of a possible 38 games against them since their 2008 takeover.

But Arsenal’s manager is confident that this losing streak will end in Sunday’s Premier League showdown. The Spaniard stated prior losing streaks against Manchester United and Chelsea are now a distant memory prior to the game.

“I think (we can) change it,” Arteta vowed. “When I came here it was so many years at Old Trafford, and also at Stamford Bridge and we’ve done it. So let’s change it. I’m aware of the qualities of the opponent, that’s unquestionable.

“The only thing I put my energy on is that on Sunday we have to be at our best for 100 minutes. That’s the thing we can control and focus on because the rest is something that we can’t.”

Arteta also refuted rumors that he will devise a unique strategy for city talisman Erling Haaland. While the Norwegian has sent shockwaves through Premier League defenses since his arrival a year ago, scoring 44 times in 42 top-flight games, his failure to score in his last two games demonstrates that he is a mere mortal like the rest of us.
“We talked about the quality of the opponent, how we want to stop them and what the resources are, like with any other opponent,” Arteta added. “Then we do the individual preparation with the players to understand who they are facing – but we won’t be doing anything different for this game.”
