“Mykhaylo’s priority was to join Arsenal” – Fabrizio Romano explains how Chelsea hijacked the Arsenal target

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea manager Graham Potter was instrumental in the Blues signing Mykhaylo Mudryk, who was heavily linked with Arsenal.

According to several reports, Arsenal made three bids for the winger to Shakhtar Donetsk, the last of which was up to €95 million, including add-ons. However, Romano reported yesterday (January 14) that the Blues made a €100 million bid to beat the Gunners to Mudryk.

It was a significant setback for the north London club, as the Ukrainian winger appeared willing to join them this month. However, Romano has now revealed that after chatting with Potter, he was persuaded to relocate to Stamford Bridge. “Been told Graham Potter has a phone,” Romano tweeted.

Transfer Updates

A few days ago, I spoke with Mykhaylo Mudryk about the Chelsea project. It was the first solid step to attract the player following the Chelsea/Shakhtar meeting last Wednesday in London, knowing that Mykhaylo’s aim was to join Arsenal. “

Mudryk joins Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Andre Santos, and Joao Felix as the Blues’ sixth signing of the January transfer window (loan). The club spent over €178 million to obtain the five players.

Potter will be hoping that the fresh signings will help him turn around his season, as he currently sits tenth in the Premier League after 18 games.

The Blues trail Arsenal by 19 points, with a game in hand, and are 10 points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United (35).

Declan Rice, a Chelsea target, has been urged to transfer to Arsenal

Emmanuel Petit, a former Chelsea and Blues midfielder, has advised West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice to transfer to the Emirates rather than Stamford Bridge.

The west London club has been linked with the English midfielder on numerous occasions . Former manager Frank Lampard was also interested in signing Rice in 2020, but the club’s hierarchy was not on the same page.

Petit, on the other hand, believes Rice should join Arsenal instead because the Premier League leaders have a stronger project at the moment. “I know Chelsea wants him, but if I were Declan Rice, I wouldn’t go to Chelsea; I’d go to Arsenal,” he remarked. The two clubs are heading in opposite directions, and with the way Arsenal is playing, he would be ideal.

Rice’s West Ham United contract expires in the summer of 2024. He has previously expressed a desire to play in the UEFA Champions League, something the Hammers, currently in 18th place, are unlikely to offer next season.

As a result, the England international might make a move in the summer. While his valuation is approximately £100 million, his contract circumstances may force him to go for less.

The 24-year-old, known for his power and ability to carry the ball, has made 220 appearances for West Ham, scoring 11 goals and providing 13 assists.
