Pep Guardiola offers simple advice for Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne on his slump in form.

Kevin De Bruyne has played in Manchester City’s last two games, although he was not at his best against Bristol City or Newcastle.

Pep Guardiola is unconcerned about Kevin De Bruyne’s minor slip in performance, encouraging his talisman to get back to basics.

De Bruyne missed two games due to sickness and required a special chat from the boss at halftime on his City return against Bristol City for being ‘too passive’. Guardiola then declared that he was back to the ‘Kevin we know,’ and he scored a stunning curling effort from 25 yards at Ashton Gate.

Nevertheless, De Bruyne’s performance dropped again in the Premier League match against Newcastle, as the Belgian was guilty of dropping the ball several times before being substituted by Bernardo Silva around the hour mark.

Even if his levels remain high, De Bruyne has struggled for consistency for some time, and Guardiola has encouraged his star player to find his best in the coming weeks.

“Kevin, always the standards of Kevin are the sky,” Guardiola said. “Everyone knows his level. In one week he has an opportunity to show his quality, delighted for the victory we had, this is what we have to do. Come back to principles, work hard.

” Everything will come back without any effort. Just do it your usual quality, your best.”

While De Bruyne has been below par, Guardiola praised Bernardo, who came in in De Bruyne’s place and scored the game-winning goal.

Describing Bernardo a unique player in international football, Guardiola said: “Bernardo has never been a top top scorer or assists but he helps us to play better. You want statistics, so go to big data, and congrats, you can write large articles about it.

“But there are things that people don’t come for the datas. Something that is unique, Bernardo is unique to make all of us play better, be aggressive and play our rhythm that we need to play to make us play better.

“The game in some moments is so quick, sometimes it is necessary, but sometimes not. Bernardo helps us to to play in a different pause to after make explosion. Bernardo is unique in the world to help us do this.”
