Pep Guardiola’s Revelation on Man City’s Joao Cancelo Transfer Standpoint Following Bayern Munich’s Benching

Cancelo joined Bayern on loan from City during the January transfer window, but he has lost favor with the Bavarian team despite making a promising start at the Allianz Arena. Currently, he has been benched, and Guardiola has stated that City will evaluate his situation at the conclusion of the season.

Guardiola informed reporters that Cancelo is currently a player for Bayern Munich and that City will review his situation along with other players, loan cases, and players who are not present at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Bayern’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, has stated that Cancelo was left out of the Champions League match against PSG as he had not trained hard enough. Although Bayern has an option to buy Cancelo in their loan agreement with City, it seems unlikely that they will be willing to pay €70 million (£62m/$76m) to permanently acquire the Portuguese international.

Bayern has achieved a clean sheet in their past four Champions League matches, which equals the club record for keeping four consecutive clean sheets in the competition. The defender, presumably Ancelo, will likely be aiming to play in the upcoming Bundesliga match against Augsburg on Saturday.

Bayern Munich’s Sporting Director, Hasan Salihamidzic, has explained that Joao Cancelo lost his place in the team due to his performances in training and matches. Salihamidzic made this assessment when commenting on Cancelo’s exclusion from the starting line-up in the team’s Champions League last-16 second leg victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. Although Cancelo started his first four games for Bayern following his loan move from Manchester City, he has played for only 18 minutes in the last three games and has been benched for four successive games. Despite coming off the bench to assist the third goal against PSG, Cancelo received a reality check from Salihamidzic’s post-match comments to the media.

“Joao hasn’t been training and playing the way we envisaged lately,” he said. “We’re in regular communication with him. I understand how he feels, but he is an excellent player who will become important to us in the future.”
