Piers Morgan leads Arsenal fans’ fury after Chelsea overpowered them to£88m signing of Mykhailo Mudryk

‘How can this be happening?’: Piers Morgan leads the outrage from Arsenal fans after Chelsea hijacked their £88 million move for Mykhailo Mudryk, as fans criticize the club for failing to land their main target.

Piers Morgan has declared himself to be ‘irrationally upset’ as Chelsea moved to the edge of signing Arsenal’s long-term target Mykhailo Mudryk, branding their unsuccessful pursuit as a ‘fiasco’.

In recent days, the Blues have tried to hijack Arsenal’s mega-money move for the Shakhtar Donetsk winger, and appear to be on the verge of sealing his arrival in a record £88 million deal.

Transfer Updates

Morgan, an outspoken Arsenal supporter, claimed the Premier League leaders had appeared ‘weak’ by enabling their London rivals to recruit the Ukrainian despite their well-publicized interest.

‘How is this possible? ‘It’s ridiculous that Arsenal let this transfer situation run on for so long, and we’ve supposedly lost him,’ Morgan tweeted.

‘If Arsenal wants to win the Premier League this season, we can’t dither for weeks on important targets just to get outflanked/outbid at the last minute. It appears to be frail.

‘We need to get another top-tier striker as soon as possible.’

Arsenal have been pursuing Mudryk in recent weeks in order to bolster Mikel Arterta’s attacking options as the Gunners seek to win the Premier League title.

Mudryk had made it apparent in recent weeks that he wanted to join the English club, publishing a photo of himself wearing an Arsenal jersey on social media.

After Arsenal, a transfer to North London appeared to be on the cards. submitted a third bid for the player worth up to £80 million.

After Arteta was asked about Mudryk during a pre-North London derby press conference, fans voiced their excitement about his probable signing.

The Arsenal boss answered with a wide grin, before calming himself and replying: ‘You know we cannot talk about any other player’.

Fans have slammed Arsenal for failing to sign their key target in the January transfer window, claiming the club ‘wasted time’.

‘Arsenal must strike a balance between having a valuation, going beyond a player’s valuation, and moving on quickly when the selling club isn’t playing ball,’ one Arsenal fan tweeted. ‘We’ve squandered time by not securing our primary target when we could.’ Nothing has ever changed at Arsenal. submitted a third bid for the player worth up to £80 million.

another person stated. ‘They can’t even sign their top target. Preposterous.’

‘We’ve needed wingers since last year, but it’s the same old Arsenal, we lose our key target and won’t spend again until the summer,’ said a third.

Other Arsenal fans are wondering who the Premier League leaders would turn to for offensive reinforcements in the wake of Mudryk’s likely move to Chelsea.

‘Whether you think Mudryk was worth the money or not, Arteta was obsessed with him,’ a fan wrote on Twitter.

‘That is what is important. He has done an amazing job assembling this bunch of contenders for the crown and deserves to be backed in the market. The board and Edu have 16 days to make amends.’

‘I wonder who Arsenal will sign following this, it’s a huge blow.’

‘Wonder who Arsenal goes after after this, huge blow but certainly has money to spend,’ another user speculated. ‘It’s not a good look to lose your major goal.’

Chelsea have all but confirmed his arrival with a succession of social media tweets, while his current club Shakhtar have stated that they are’very close’ to finalising a deal to let him depart.

Blues executives traveled to Poland on Saturday to hold talks with the Ukrainian club about signing the 22-year-old.

‘FC Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov and Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali discussed Mykhailo Mudryk’s transfer to Chelsea FC today,’ Shakhtar said on their English Twitter page.

‘Parties are very close to reaching an agreement on the player’s transfer to the club.’

Arsenal may now have to explore elsewhere for striking reinforcements in the remainder of the transfer season, while the arrival would be a huge boost for under-fire Chelsea manager Graham Potter.
